Makin' a Splash

Alex and I took Ollie swimming in the hotel pool during our trip up to Vancouver BC, and he LOVED it!! He splashed around and would even float on his back (supported) and kick his legs. Since Alex is a school teacher and has the summers off, we've decided to look into parent/baby swimming lessons this summer.  I'm not sure what exactly they teach babies in swim lessons, but just having him get used to the water would be a good start.

Swimming was a big part of my childhood. I took lessons every summer and eventually worked as a lifeguard at summer camp.  I always felt bad for the kids who couldn't pass the swim check and had to stay in the shallow end.  Teaching Ollie to swim will also give me confidence (I hope) to let him participate water activities with friends without me hovering around.

Has anyone taken swim lessons with their baby? Did they enjoy it?

  3. We're starting swimming lessons at the Pro Club in Bellevue next weekend. T will only be 5 months but I'm anxious to get him in the water. I can't imagine he'll learn much but I'm hoping I get a technique or two out of it so he can be comfortable in the water. I was a fish growing up and hope he will be too.
