Baby Spice

Inspired by the popular book French Kids Eat Everything, I've been attempting to add texture and spice to Ollie's homemade baby food in hopes he will grow up to eat more than grilled cheese and plain pasta. I know I know, pipe dreams right? Still, it's worth a shot.

So far we have introduced the following spices:
  • cinnamon (easily added to oatmeal and pureed fruit)
  • rosemary
  • garlic
  • basil
  • nutmeg

Surprisingly, Ollie has enjoyed eating all the spiced food with the exception of garlic (although I may have added a bit too much).  Keeping true to the book I will continue to offer garlic spiced foods in small amounts until he gets used to the taste, because who wants to live a garlic free life?? Not me!

Next on my list to introduce is oregano and dill. Have you had success with spicing up your baby's food? What spices did your baby like best?

  3. It's backed by research too, was just learning about this last week in class. It helps expand the babies taste buds, and if it isn't done within the first year, there is a chance that the child will not eat it (until older/an adult, if at all).

Also, I've had the spice girls stuck in my head since I saw this header this morning at 7:30am...thanks :)

  4. I added cinnamon to Freddie's oatmeal for the first time this morning and he loved it! Going to follow your lead and try some others too.
